Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of interpersonal communication of Islamic religious instructors, their implementation methods, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in improving the spiritual well-being of the Banjaragung Hamlet community. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with field research. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Social Penetration Theory. The results show that the interpersonal communication of Islamic religious instructors is characterized by self-disclosure, the use of local language, and an egalitarian and close-knit approach. The implementation of this communication is carried out by integrating religious activities and local traditions such as tahlilan, yasinan, diba'an, and informal discussions after the activities have taken place. Supporting factors for interpersonal communication include a strong culture of silaturahmi and the humility of the instructors, while inhibiting factors come from resistance from some community leaders and limited education and economic conditions of the residents. Overall, interpersonal communication that is consistently implemented can encourage gradual spiritual changes in the community, which is reflected in increased inner peace, gratitude, and social harmony.
