Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the chicken hanging machine at the PT. Tri Terus Jaya Makmur poultry slaughterhouse using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing data gathered through observation, interviews, direct measurements, and company operational documents. Machine effectiveness was analyzed based on availability, performance efficiency, and quality rate, while FTA was used to identify the root causes of performance degradation. The results indicate that the average OEE value over a 30-day observation period was 77.91%, falling short of the JIPM ideal standard of 85%. These findings suggest that machine effectiveness is suboptimal and there is room for improvement, particularly in reducing operating time losses. An analysis of the "Six Big Losses" revealed that breakdown loss was the dominant factor, accounting for 35% of losses, while FTA identified conveyor chain failure, drive motor slippage, and hook jams as the primary causes of downtime. These issues are linked to inadequate lubrication, component wear, debris accumulation, and suboptimal preventive maintenance. The findings indicate that efforts to enhance machine effectiveness should prioritize strengthening preventive maintenance and the management of critical components.
