Abstract

Turmeric farming serves as a source of income for farmers in Solok City; however, its sustainability faces various production constraints and limited input support. This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility of turmeric farming and its contribution to farmers' household income in Solok City. A quantitative descriptive approach utilizing a farm analysis model was employed. Data were collected from 31 active turmeric farmers in the Payo area (Tanah Garam Urban Village, Lubuk Sikarah District) through structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis covered production costs, revenue, income, the R/C ratio, financial viability, and the contribution of farming income to household income. The results indicate that turmeric farming is financially profitable, with an R/C ratio of 2.27 and an average net income of IDR 30,744,279 per planting season. However, the farming operation is not yet financially viable, as revenue fails to cover the combined total production costs and household consumption expenditures, resulting in an average deficit of IDR 353,401. Turmeric farming income contributes 54.72% to the farmers' household income, placing it in the moderate category. These findings suggest that while turmeric farming is financially profitable, its sustainability requires strengthening through the provision of high-quality planting material, improved production efficiency, enhanced farmer bargaining power, and the diversification of household income sources.
