Abstract

Household food security can be enhanced through fish and vegetable cultivation using the "fish-in-a-bucket" (budikdamber) system. A common challenge in fish farming is delayed feeding caused by the manager's time constraints. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the performance of an ESP32-based automatic catfish feeder, assessing functionality, reliability, timing accuracy, and power consumption. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The device was constructed using an ESP32, a 16×2 I2C LCD, an SG90 servo, and a power bank as the power source. Testing was conducted in stages, comprising Black Box testing, a seven-day reliability test, feeding timing accuracy checks, and power consumption analysis. The results demonstrated that the device successfully executed scheduled feedings at 07:00, 12:00, and 17:00 WITA with a 100% success rate. The system also displayed time information and device status on the LCD. The findings indicate that the developed device effectively automates scheduled feeding and holds potential for supporting catfish farming management within the budikdamber system.
