Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a numeracy matriculation course on the numeracy skills of first-year students at Universitas Katolik Weetebula in the 2025–2026 academic year. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design was used. The sample comprised 681 new students who participated in the numeracy matriculation program. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments and analyzed using a paired-sample t-test and N-gain. The mean pretest score was 49.56, which increased to a mean posttest score of 69.43. The t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in numeracy skills before and after matriculation. The N-gain value of 0.39 was classified as moderate, indicating that the matriculation effectively improved numeracy skills. Limitations include the lack of a control group, reliance solely on quantitative instruments, and absence of long-term retention measurement. Future research is recommended to use comparative or quasi-experimental designs, incorporate qualitative data (interviews/observations) to explore the learning process, and conduct follow-up studies to evaluate long-term effects of matriculation.
