Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of technology-based learning using the PhET Colorado application with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills in the One Variable Linear Equation material at SMP Negeri 1 Wanukaka. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class VII A as the experimental class and class VII B as the control class. Data were collected through a critical thinking ability test given before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment. The experimental class received learning using the PhET Colorado application with the PBL model, while the control class used conventional learning. The results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class (87.67) was higher than the control class (76.67). The homogeneity test showed homogeneous data with a significance value of 0.605 > 0.05. Because some of the data were not normally distributed, hypothesis testing was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results of the analysis showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.002 < 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the PhET Colorado application with the PBL model has a significant effect on students' critical thinking skills in the One Variable Linear Equation material.
