Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the performance of the Simbuang Intersection in Mamuju Regency based on the 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) and to assess its implications for the level of road service. This intersection was chosen because it connects traffic flow from R.E. Martadinata Street, General Sudirman Street, Soekarno Hatta Street, and General Gatot Subroto Street, making it important in distributing movement within the Mamuju urban area. The study uses a descriptive quantitative approach through surveys of traffic volume, intersection geometry, signal timing, side obstructions, queue lengths, and operational conditions during peak hours. The data was analyzed using the PKJI 2023 stages to obtain equivalent volume, approach capacity, degree of saturation, average delay, stopped vehicle ratio, queue length, and level of service. The analysis results show that the intersection's performance under existing conditions is not yet optimal. The highest degree of saturation reached 0.98 with an average delay of 60.3 seconds per vehicle, putting the intersection service level in category F. Handling it through green time adjustments, signal phase optimization, and side obstruction control can reduce the saturation to 0.86 and improve the service level to category E. These results indicate that intersection performance can be improved through more proportional signal timing and managing activities on the roadside. This study can serve as a technical basis for urban traffic management in Mamuju Regency.
