Kemampuan Kognitif Siswa Kelas VII B dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Matematika Materi Rasio

Abstract
Students' cognitive abilities in solving mathematics problems need to be studied to determine the level of concept mastery and thinking skills at each cognitive level, especially on the ratio material which is the basis for understanding various advanced mathematical concepts. This study aims to describe the cognitive abilities of class VII B students in solving mathematics problems on the ratio material. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of 12 class VII B students of SMP Negeri 1 Loura who were selected because they had studied the ratio material and represented the characteristics of students' abilities in mathematics learning in that class. The research instrument was in the form of six essay questions based on the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy indicators, namely C1 (remembering), C2 (understanding), C3 (applying), C4 (analyzing), C5 (evaluating), and C6 (creating). Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students' cognitive abilities were in the high category, with 33.3% of students in the very high category, 50% in the high category, and 16.7% in the medium category. Students still struggle with higher-order thinking skills, particularly analyzing, evaluating, and creating. These findings suggest that mathematics instruction needs to be geared toward developing higher-order thinking skills through contextual problem-solving and learning strategies that encourage critical and creative thinking.
