Abstract

Critical thinking is a key competency that should be nurtured from the early stages of education, particularly at the elementary level in Social Studies learning. In reality, however, many students have not yet developed this skill to its full potential. This issue is often linked to classroom practices that are still dominated by teachers and provide limited opportunities for students to actively participate. This paper seeks to explore the implementation of the role playing model as a strategy to enhance students’ critical thinking abilities. The study applies a literature review approach by examining a range of relevant scholarly sources. The findings suggest that role playing can make students more engaged, help them voice their ideas, and support deeper analysis of social issues. Based on these results, the role playing model can be viewed as an effective approach to foster critical thinking skills in Social Studies at the elementary school level
